Press Release – Bontrager Named Official Tire Sponsor of Trek World Racing XC Riders

02/01/2010

Bontrager Tires Added to Existing Component, Clothing, and Wheel Sponsorship

Bontrager confirmed today that it will augment its existing support of Trek World Racing and become the official tire sponsor of the 2010 Trek World Racing XC Team. Bontrager, who in 2009 sponsored TWR with wheels, components and clothing, becomes the team’s first tire sponsor to date and sole rubber sponsor for the cross country racers in 2010.

“We are excited to increase our level of support for Trek World Racing in 2010 by supplying riders with the most technologically advanced wheels, components, technical apparel, and now tires,” remarked Bontrager Brand Manager Chris Clinton. “With recent model introductions, we now offer a full range of cross country racing tires.”

TWR cross country riders will have access to Bontrager’s full line of tires throughout the 2010 season, including the newly-released XR0, a super-light cross country tire designed specifically for hard-packed courses and World Cup racing. Other tires popular with existing TWR riders include the XR1, another light and fast hard-pack tire, and the XR2, a versatile new tire designed for hard-packed, loose and loamy terrain.

“For dry races I liked to use the XR1,” said TWR rider and former Junior World Champion Mathias Flückiger. “It was the perfect race tire for the 2009 season with the dry and fast World Cup courses. It is light and has amazing traction, and with having little knobs and the soft casing, they’re ideal in the sandy and rocky sections of courses. Even if there are some slippery and wet sections on the course the XR1 is the perfect choice.”

Bontrager Tires XR0, XR1, and XR2

“Having a pro team at this level racing on our tires allows us to do our development work using some of the best athletes and toughest conditions in the world,” states Keith Bontrager. “They were looking for tires that were light, rolled fast and had good traction in the tough conditions they race in. No surprises there. So that’s what we designed.”

Owned and operated by 23 Degrees Sports Management, with Trek as title sponsor, the Trek World Racing team is one of the only World Cup teams to combine both cross-country and downhill podium contending athletes into one highly competitive squad. 2009 proved to be an extremely successful first year for both the XC and DH riders.

Racing fans and MTB enthusiasts can learn more about Trek World Racing and watch hours of 2009 World Cup race coverage at the Trek World Racing website, and learn more about Bontrager wheels, components and apparel by visiting www.bontrager.com.

Things have been pretty mellow around the shop this week. Base is going good and until yesterday the weather has been good. We have started our indoor training rides on Mon and Weds at 5:30 the first week was good more people would be better….you can bring your own trainer or rent one of the brand new jet fluid pro trainers I have……so to all of you tri geeks out there check out this review of the Trek TTX from slow twitch.com…..

Slowtwitch.com Reviews the Trek Equinox TTX 9.5 01/28/2010

Slowtwitch.com Review the Trek Equinox TTX 9.5

Dan Empfield, known for being a tough critic, has written a great review of the TTX 9.5 and the Project One program. Here are a few of his comments.

“One thing I really like about this [Project one] process is that the bike comes exactly as you need it, with the right gearing, the right stem length and pitch, and—though you may not think this important—the right length cables and casings for the stem option you’ve chosen.”

“If a Trek Equinox TTX is on that list [of bikes that conform to a rider’s geometric needs], Trek will build you this bike, with the right stem, and the proper length cables and casings. You won’t have to sub-out / sub-in cogs or chainrings, saddles, aerobars, what have you, because, like Burger King, Trek thinks you should Have It Your Way.”

To read the full review, please visit slowtwitch.com.
